After nearly 16 years serving as an officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy, Matt McQuaid made the transition into business ownership, taking over Plyguy in 2020.
Drawing on the discipline, planning and problem-solving skills developed during his military career, Matt has focused on modernising and systemising the business while maintaining the practical, customer-focused approach Plyguy is known for.
Under Matt’s leadership, Plyguy has expanded beyond plywood into a broader timber merchant operation, now supplying customers across the Wairarapa and through a second branch in Taranaki.
Matt is passionate about helping customers find creative, affordable building solutions and enjoys seeing the incredible variety of projects people create using Plyguy materials — from home renovations and farm projects to skate ramps, cafes and even aircraft builds.
